The 2008 APVMA Symposium is going to be held March 8 - March 10, 2008. That is Saturday through Monday. WE DO HAVE CLASS THAT MONDAY, so you'll miss a day of class. Symposium is at the University of Florida - Gainesville. The symposium itself will cost about $100/person (not sure about price yet). Hotel cost will be around $65/person. Flights from Madison to Florida will be around $320-380/person. Total costs should be between $485 and $545/person. Please let us know NO LATER THAN JANUARY 1st if you will go by emailing David, the vice president, at gagnon@wisc.edu. This will be a binding statement because the vice president will book the flights and hotel right after. Hopefully we'll get a generous travel grant from ASM.

General Q & A
What happens during the symposium?
Lots of education on the diverse field of veterinary medicine! The first day is welcome day with dinner, line-dancing, and games (like tug-o-intestines!?) The second day includes classes orientated towards introducing pre-vet students to the field followed by dinner with a formal speaker. At night there is a themed dance with all 500-600 pre-vet students invited! The last day, March 10th, is optional tour day! "Florida boasts some to the most prestigious veterinary facilities in the country. With our diverse culture and subtropical weather, opportunities in any veterinary medicine field abound. Tour Day is designed to introduce pre-vet students from across the country to those opportunities and give them the chance to see what’s available after they graduate from vet school" (-APVMA symposium people). Attendees tour large, small, zoo, and marine mammal medical facilities.

Who is in charge? APVMA
Who are they?
The American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association is a national association intended to broaden the reach of veterinary medicine and all it has to offer through education. The only members are pre-vet students and those interested in pursing a veterinary medicine career.
